Preschool

Playschool is the preschool section of Queen Elizabeth, founded in 2005.
Playschool is divided into two units:

  1. The Toddler Unit for the children from 1-2 years of age.

  2. The Pre Nursery Unit or 2-3 year olds.

The Toddler and Pre nursery classes follow an Early Years Programme. The material is presented in a fun dynamic manner using puppets, DVD’s, art and music to reinforce learning. The children are in an exceptional stage of their lives where they can acquire fluency, vocabulary, and learn to express themselves in English with the same ease as when speaking in their mother tongue.

Curriculum

The children in Playschool follow a very successful teaching curriculum which centres on the following 10 topics:

  • Friends and School
  • Home and family/ the world around me
  • Health/nutrition /safety
  • Our Community
  • Celebrations/all kinds of workers and getting along
  • Numbers/shapes/colours/construction
  • Observing the world/ sorting and classifying
  • Animals and where they live
  • How plants grow/seasons and weather/ growth and change

PHYSICAL EDUCATION - MUSIC AND MOVEMENT CLASSES. Our pupils receive P.E and music and movement classes during the scholastic timetable, which are taught by our PE and Music teacher at the school. These classes are an important part of the curriculum and help the children to learn how to coordinate their fine and gross motor skills. We have a gym at the school, and specialized music and gym equipment for the different age groups.

SWIMMING: Children from the age of 2 onwards attend swimming lessons during the school timetable once a week. Swimming is part of our P.E curriculum and it is conducted by qualified professionals in the local swimming pool.

The priorities of Preschool are threefold

  1. The first is that the school be a safe, happy, clean environment where children are cared for and taught as individuals; a place where the child feels at home and part of a large family. We teach them to respect and share with one another.

  2. The second is that the educational needs of the child are met in terms of language development, expression and general knowledge. We also place equal emphasis on the child's fine and gross motor development.

  3. The third is that the child acquires independence in the activities of daily living such as feeding oneself, toilet training and hygiene.
